Yes, don’t worry about it being on windows, it’s easier to use a ps3 controller than an xbox controller cause a wireless xbox controller requires an adapter to work.
Just plug in the usb cable, and if the pc’s OS is up to date it will detect it as a gamepad.
If you go in to configure the gamepad, this is the native layout:
left stick, left-right: axis 0
left stick. up-down: axis 1
right stick, left-right: axis 2
right stick, up-down: axis 3
PS button: button 0
Start button: button 4
d-pad up, right, down, left: buttons 5-8
l2, r2, l1, r1: buttons 9-12
triangle, O, X, square: buttons 13-16.
Normally l3 and r3 won’t register as buttons, nor will the motion sensors. but that still gives you 4 axes and 14 buttons to work with. Select doesn’t quite work right.
once you get more advanced there’s a twist: because all the buttons are pressure sensitive, they also can be used as axes. Each button has an axis number as well, if you want to set them up as axes. This is useful for driving games if you want to set up l2 and r2 as brake and gas.

You can, search Google for PS3 Controller Drivers. Though it could be very unstable as for the most; computers (with Windows) were setup to play games with an Xbox or Xbox 360 controller as both Windows and Xbox/360 were both made by Microsoft.
